             Santa Clara Valley Chapter            Brandeis Study and Special Interest Groups

The essence of the Brandeis National Committee, Santa Clara Valley Chapter is the provision of learning and support through camaraderie. This year the Chapter is pleased to offer its members an increasing number of groups from which to choose.  Among them are current events discussions, reading groups, dining, cooking, crafts, museum excursions, singing, movie and theater groups, and many others. These stimulating opportunities and others are available with membership in the Chapter’s Study and Special Interest Groups.

The fee of $30 per person, payable to BNC, for our Study/Special Interest Group program is for an unlimited number of groups. There is also the special rate of $50 for two persons living in the same household. Please send the check to our chapter’s Financial Secretary:

If you have not already renewed your Brandeis membership, please mail a separate membership check of $60, made payable to BNC, to our chapter’s Financial Secretary Janis Silver.

Brandeis Study and Special Interest Groups 2016-2018

ADVENTUROUS DINING
To be held in conjunction with “Theatergoers”. Tired of the same places to eat? Spice up your palate. We dine at inexpensive and unusual ethnic restaurants, many of them in the Entertainment Book. The Group coordinates with Theatregoers. Dine either before or after the play depending on the performance time.

AFTERNOON READERS
Enjoy books, including fiction, non-fiction and plays. Participants take turns facilitating the discussion.

MOVIE GROUP

This Group meets in The Villages. Each month a different member of the group will choose a movie and facilitate a discussion. The movie selection and restaurant will be sent by e-mail to the group members two weeks prior to the discussion, so all will have time to see the movie. Dinner before the group meets is optional.
When: 4th Satur day – 7:15pm

ART MUSEUM TOURS
Take day trips to various museums in the bay area. Trips may include a docent’s tour and lunch.

CURRENT ISSUES IN THE WORLD TODAY
Discuss a variety of current events international, national and local issues. Members participate as discussion leader.

FANCY FINGERS
Coffee and Crafts. This Group promotes activity to set your creative juices flowing and reduce stress. We learn from each other as we form our own sewing circle, quilting bee, nesting needlework, exotic embroidery and other flights of fancy your fingers may take.

HANDS ON GOURMET
Hands on Gourmet is a cooking group for budding chefs.  The members take turns hosting luncheon meetings at their homes.  The hostess for each meeting decides on the luncheon menu and acts as head chef.

RABBI ARON'S WOMEN'S STUDY GROUP
Attendees will read short stories written by Jewish women from Europe

JOANNE’S BON APPETIT  
Enjoy cooking and eating interesting foods. Experience gracious dining, socializing, cooking and eating gourmet foods in member’s homes. Participants are given recipes by the coordinator. Delicious creations are cooked at home and brought to the elegant group luncheon. Participants take turns hosting and cooking.

KNITZVAH
Love to knit? If so join the fabulous and amazing Knitzvah members as they knit, crochet, sew and
quilt loving items of clothing for needy children and adults throughout the Santa Clara County
area. Knitzvah is a part of the Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley. Free yarn is supplied.

PAPER TOLE WORKSHOP
Paper Tole is the art of constructing a 3 - dimensional image from a 2 - dimensional
print --- ANY print. For a Brandeis member, there is no fee to learn. Bring friends,
and all that is asked of a non member is that a contribution be made to the BNC.

THE INTELLIGENT BRAIN
What defines intelligence? Where does it come from? How does it operate in the brain? In search of answers to these questions, participants will view and then discuss video lectures by Prof. Richard Haler of the University of California Irvine. These lectures present much of the current research that is being done on this exciting topic.

MEN’S DIALOGUE GROUP

This will be a safe group to discuss the various issues that may come up during a lifetime such as: transition, health and wellness, relationship building, joy and loss, legacy, general satisfaction, and other life’s challenges. The members of the group will decide what issues they want to address and what ground rules they would like to adopt for the good and welfare of the members.

ENNEAGRAM OF OF PERSONALITY
The Enneagram is a model of the nine fundamental personality types of human nature and their complex human relationships. In this group we will explore these nine personality types and how they relate to each other. Each member will learn about his/her own personality type and

how it has influenced his/her life.
